About the University
The Central University of Rajasthan has been established by an Act of Parliament (Act No. 25 of 2009, The Gazette of India, No. 27, published on 20th March, 2009) as a new Central University, and is fully funded by the Government of India. The President of India, His Excellency Shri Ram Nath Kovind, is the Visitor of the Central University of Rajasthan. Prof. Arun K. Pujari is the second and present Vice Chancellor of the University.
Central University of Rajasthan is located in Ajmer district of Rajasthan state of India. It is situated approximately one and a half kilometre interior of NH-8, at Bandarsindri.
University has eleven schools of studies accommodating twenty two different academic departments and one community college. In these schools a total of 49 teaching programmes are run those cover Science, Technology, Humanities, Commerce, Management, Public Policy and Social Science fields with strong emphasis on research based education. The study programmes offered at the university include five year integrated M. Sc programmes in 10 different fields and provides B. Sc. and M. Sc. degrees. The University offers various Post Graduate (PG) programmes with specialization, M. A. Programmes. M.Sc. Programmes and three-year integrated M. Sc., B. Ed and Ph. D. programmes.
Every year approximately 1700 students take admissions in various programmes. The strength of teaching staff stands at a strong 122 figure, each learned member having vast research experience in their respective fields. The university campus offers its resident students and other members ample facilities those make their everyday stay comfortable and provides an environment conducive for learning. The various aspects of the campus life at CURAJ are detailed below.
New Academic Blocks
In the recent past university has completed its second phase of infrastructural development where four state of the art, permanent buildings of academic blocks and administration block were completed. Along with this the first phase development of faculty residences was also completed.
All these newer and earlier hostel buildings have been constructed on a common theme, as an amalgamation of traditional architectural features of Rajasthan and modern day’s designs.
The academic schools of science fields have now been moved to the permanent academic blocks e.g. 4A3 building accommodates School of Life Sciences and School of Sport Sciences; 4A4 block has School of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, 4A5 block accommodates School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computational Sciences, whereas 4A6 building has School of Physical Sciences, School of Earth Sciences and the School of Architecture. The administration of the university now operates from its permanent building, situated in the center of the four new academic blocks. It is the first building that one can locate right in front of the main gate number-1.
The School of Humanities and Languages, School of Commerce and Management, School of Engineering and Technology, School of Education and School of Social Science are functioning from old academic blocks viz. SP3 and SP1. The permanent infrastructure for these disciplines is in planning stage and will be built soon.
Central university of Rajasthan has a centralized and fully automated library. The air conditioned library having a large reading hall with capacity of approximately one hundred. The layout of the library includes individual reading carrels, lounge area for browsing and relaxed reading, IT zone for accessing e-resources. At present the library has around 25000 books with annual increment of approximately 100 more books. Apart from that it has subscription for nearly 100 print journals (national and international combined). The library is also well equipped with e-resources. It has access to UGC- INFONET Digital Library Consortium and have subscription for over 8000 online journals. In addition to this over 2000 journal are subscribed by the library. Apart from these the library consists of other learning resources as well, for example CD ROM collections (600), magazines (36) and 14 newspaper subscriptions. Library managment organizes different workshops and training modules for students time to time. The library is situated at the back space of the auditorium building, which is located between the flanking buildings of SP-3 and SP-1. The library timings are student friendly and remain open all seven days of the week: Mon-Fri 9 AM to 12 PM night; Sat-Sun 10 AM to 6 PM.
The Central University of Rajasthan provides well sanitized residential accommodation to its residents. There are six –hostel buildings in total; three for boys and three for girls with provision of centralized air conditioning. Hostel building are constructed using a green technology which maintains the internal room temperatures about 2 to 3 degrees lower than the outside environment. The rooms are well ventilated and furnished (bed with mattress, study table and chair, almirahs etc.) and provided with 24x7 electricity and Wi-Fi internet connectivity.Each hostel has its own recreational space which includes common T.V. room and indoor games’ facility for example table tennis, badminton etc. Apart from these, each hostel is guarded 24x7 by two guards. The girl’s hostels are guarded by lady guards during night hours. Boy’s hostels are monitored through CCTV cameras at all times. Hostel buildings are equipped with fire alarms. Hostels buildings have been constructed with measures for differently-abled students.
The Central University of Rajasthan provides transport facility for students and staff. The university bus operates between Kishangarh and university on working days and on Sundays. Students and employees residing at Kishangarh commute using this conveyance. It starts from Kishangarh at 8:30 AM and leaves campus at 5:00 and 6:15 PM. On Sundays it takes students from campus to Kishangarh at 3:30 PM and brings them back at 5:30 PM. Travel via bus till bandarsindri does not cost anyone, beyond this charge is Rs 20. During day time the bus also operates between hostels and the academic blocks for students. One smaller vehicles (Mini-van called as GUNGUN) operates between campus and Bandarsindri every half an hour from 8 o’clock in the morning till 2 in the afternoon. Beyond this time also this service is available but subject to number of passengers.
Central University of Rajasthan offers platform for co-curricular activities with an aim of impacting all the faculties of one’s personality for overall personality development. Some of these activities e.g sports activities, cultural events, national service programmes etc. are coordinated by the office of Dean of Student Welfare and executed through various clubs which includes Sports Clubs, Literary Clubs, and Cultural Activity Club etc. NSS (National Service Scheme) provides a platform to students that give new dimension to their life by providing opportunity to work for national and social cause. In addition to these the individual departments have also formed clubs as part of departmental extracurricular activity to add expression and innovativeness to the learning process of the students helping them attain overall development of all their faculties. These clubs are managed by students. In addition to organizing departmental activities, these clubs at many occasions organize inter-departmental fairs and events. With passing time almost all departments have formed clubs. There are more than ten such clubs already up and running in our university. These are Literary Club, Film Club, Lenswala, Navsrijana, Economania, Music Club, shuttergraphy Club, Chemunity Club, Pharmazest Club to name a few. These clubs often act as a forum for the students' genius to find expression which in turn helps them evolve intellectually into healthy and positive minds.
A heath care system is in place on campus round the clock to tackle any health issues of the residents. The health centre is situated in the ground floor of a Building situated just besides the bank building. It has a mini nursing unit having two wards with six beds each and a dispensary unit having stocks of medicines to meet the requirement of common illnesses and emergency. The Healthcare centre is headed by a doctor who manages the entire facility with the help of support staff, compounder and a nurse. The health center has an ambulance bus, equipped with state of art facilities, available 24 hours on campus. In addition to its routine health care, the centre also organizes various health awareness programmes and free check-up camps for common people from around the campus, time to time. The blood donation camps are organized on campus by the center in association with a regional blood bank. The working hours for OPD/regular medical facilities are 8:00 AM- 12:00PM and 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (everyday). Sports and Playgrounds
Our university provides exceptional amenities for sports and games. Every year intra-university games are organized among four groups. There are as many as twelve sports clubs viz. badminton, tennis, table tennis, volley ball, basket ball, cricket, foot ball, kabaddy, kho-kho, athletics, carom and chess. Each year various teams, selected by respective sport clubs, are sent to participate in inter university tournaments organized by Association of Indian Universities (Inter University Sports Board of India).All these sport activities are supported by a magnanimous on campus sport’s infrastructure. Our campus is decorated all around with playgrounds for various games. These include one cricket ground, one stadium-cum-football ground (with 400 meter running track), two tennis courts, two basketball courts, one volley ball court, one wooden floored badminton court, spread across hostel and academic buildings. Apart from these, gym facilities for boys and girls are also available on campus.Additionally, university organizes different training camps for yoga, martial arts etc. to motivate youths. All sport activities are coordinated through a sport’s committee. Various sport specific equipments e.g. bats, rackets, balls shuttles etc are made available to students through respective sport clubs.
Canteen & Mess
The university has two small cosy canteen complex on its premises that caters to the whole university’s needs. The old canteen complex has two main eateries one provides with tea and snack items whereas the adjacent one offers more options of food like lunch dinner snacks and juice items. This complex has a milk dairy shop that provides milk and milk items optionally fruits. The complex also has one general store shop and one stationary-cum-photocopy shop. The complex has a large spacious open area in front of it. Among CURAJ students, the Canteen Complex is popularly known as “Thadi”. Canteen Complex is located opposite bank’s building and runs from 6.30 AM in morning till 9.00 PM in the night on all days. Canteen complex is well managed on hygiene. At many occasions the canteen premises is also used to organize different entertainment/recreation programs organized by different departments, clubs etc., regarding social/ cultural/ sports related/ national issues. There is another small Amul Parler-cum- canteen which is situated just by the side of 4A6 building. This is a very famous evening hangout eatery of the campus. Since ours is a residential campus, mess facility is provided to the students. For girls the mess facility is provided in their respective hostels and for boys there is a separate mega mess that caters to all students and to faculty members as well. All the mess are run under the supervision of the administration and this maintains the food quality and hygiene standards high. Mess provides all the meals of the day on reasonable price.
The office of Indian Postal Service is also located on campus in the canteen complex. The Post Office is identified with the name “Central University of Rajasthan S. O.” (Sub-office) with Postal Index Number (PIN) 305817. Most of the postal services are available through this post office. The arrived mails of students can be collected from the dispatch section of the administration building during working hours on working days. Courier service also is available and can be reached through the post office although not as part of the PO. Additionally, Online shopping/e-commerce sites like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal etc. deliver their parcels at CURAJ campus by the side of post office.
Bank & ATM
The University has on campus bank officeand a 24 hours ATM facility. The bank that operates on the campus is Bank of India (Branch: Central University of Rajasthan). The bank manages the accounts of the students, employees and local people from villages around the campus. The bank has user friendly mechanisms to open accounts and provides various saving schemes for all. It is equipped with a fast internet banking (RTGS, IMPS and NEFT) system. The ATM facility with two machines, is located just adjacent to the bank office. This makes the money transfer smooth and as a result machines hardly go out of cash. The bank and the ATM buildings are situated just in front of the canteen complex.
Nearby Cities and Towns
There are two main cities and one town in the near vicinity of university campus namely Jaipur, the capital city, Ajmer and Kishangarh respectively. All these places are connected via national highway – 8. Jaipur is situated approximately 80 Km in its North West direction. Jaipur is a popular tourist destination in India. The city is decorated with many historical forts and palaces e.g. Amer fort, Nahargarh Fort, Jaigarh Fort, City Palace, Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal etc. On the other hand World Trade Park is the modern face of the city. Jaipur is the hub of handicraft trade of the state. It has many traditional shops selling antiques, jewellery, handicrafts, gems, bangles, pottery, carpets, textiles, leather and metal products. Bapu Bazaar, Badi Choupar and Chhoti Choupar are the main traditional market places of the city. In addition to these many cultural sites like Jawahar Kala Kendra and many outlets to taste the cuisine are spread all over the city. In addition to traditional spots the city has all the modern day facilities e.g. various malls, eateries, multiplex cinema halls all across the city where one can enjoy in leisure time. Another great city Ajmer is situated about 50 Km away to the South West direction from the campus. Ajmer is surrounded by the Aravalli Mountains. It is a pilgrimage centre for the shrine of the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and is also the base for visiting Pushkar, famous for the temple of Brahma. Anasagar, an artificial lake, to the north of the city is one of the tourist spots of the city. Ajmer is home to antiques and silver jewelry. Some of the famous markets are Naya Bazaar, Madar Gate, Churi Bazaar, Ajaymeru Udyog Crafts Mela etc. Here also all modern day life style amenities are available for CURAjians to enjoy. Kishangarh is a tehsil town located in the West of the campus at about 20 Km distance. It is also known as marble city as it is the hub of marble trade. Beautiful Aravalli hills surround it at the foot of which is the Gundalao lake. A historical Phool Mahal Palace is situated by the side of the lake has now been converted to a hotel. On the other side of the lake is situated a famous temple of Goddess Kali which is a very serene place to find peace and spirituality. Krishna Art Gallery on City Road is known for its Bani-Thani Paintings and handcraft items. The town provides for all day to day requirements of students and university employees.
The University campus itself offers a recreational space like canteen area and porch area in front of the hostels and the playgrounds to relax after long academic day. In addition to that various other outside hangout options are available in the near vicinity of the campus. There are a couple of canteens just outside the gate no.3 and at the Bandarsindri across the highway. Kuber resort and the Lakshmi Villas are the two nearest eating outlets those offer veg and non-veg food and each has a traditional craft shop. Both of these resorts are situated beyond Birla International School by the side of the highway at about 5-6 Km distance. Royal Heritage is a very fine, built on Rajasthan traditional architecture hotel situated just before the Kishangarh town at the highway. This hotel had been a favourite choice of students for conducting their fresher and farewell parties. The hotel restaurant offers vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. In Kishangarh, Crystal Park is a combination of hotel, a restaurant and a cinema hall, all under one roof. Maya Bazaar, a mall, has a vast range of shops and has a fine snakes/chaat outlet. The hill top temple in Kishangarh is great trek up and the view of the whole town from the top of the hill is a treat for eyes. Pahariya Sweets and Restaurant, Bani- Thani, Fresh Corner, Lav-Kush are some other favourite hangout places of students. The highway route passing through the Marble City area has shops of sculpture items made of marble to a stretch of about half a kilometre. Past Kishangarh, on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway is situated a Ansal complex Sushant City with shopping complex, multiplex, restaurants and food courts. The Mcdonald outlet is also situated in this complex. This is a great place to hangout. Just by its side is situated Swad Ri Dhani, a resort styled replica of a local village. This offers traditional Rajasthani food and culture. Cultural programmes, a combination of folk dance and songs are arranged in the evenings for the guests.
