“Innovation in Science and Technology for Sustainable Development”

THEME NOTE OF THE CONGRESS:

Rajasthan is a state of rich culture, tradition, heritage and monuments. It is the largest state in India, area-wise, with 5.5% of country’s population. Climate of the state is generally arid or semi-arid. Around two third of its population depend on agriculture which is shaped by its climate. The cultural heritage of the state has deep rooted social and economical implications on the daily lives of the common citizens. The state is famous for textile, tie and dye industry, handicraft and woodwork etc. The areas of human resource and heritage need to be preserved and developed further. The agriculture related issues need more focused intervention of science and technology. On education front also state has improved with coming up of various eminent institutions of higher learning however there is still lot more to achieve. The low to average literacy rate of the state has impeded the alleviation of centuries old social evils e.g. superstition rituals, female feticide, poor opportunities of education within women and weaker sections of the society etc. Science and technology backed approach to solve these issues and concerted efforts to introduce and inculcate scientific temperament in its masses will lead the state towards its much desired sustained development. It is the need of the hour that research groups from diverse fields across the state, country and the world should come together to collaborate and innovate around challenges faced in education, healthcare, agriculture, energy, industry and environment sectors to find solutions in stipulated short period of time as isolated groups may take longer in the process.

The main aim of Rajasthan Science Congress-2018 is to bring together scientists working in diverse fields around the world to a common forum to present, discuss the most recent innovations from their labs, to learn about various other issues of the land and to share their experiences and expertise through seminars and discussions over the three days of congress. The congress will present an opportunity to all to forge collaborations among senior and peer groups in order to co-innovate/invent methods, processes, technologies etc. to support the demands of development and balance its side effects to make it sustainable for masses and environment.

This thought of collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach towards innovation for society in alliance with the motto of Central University of Rajasthan, “Education for Sustainable Development”, lead to the inception of the theme of the Rajasthan Science Congress 2018: “Innovation in Science and Technology for Sustainable Development”.
